Delayed reporting authorized.

I love those.

The idea behind it is to allow for folks to be up to X hours late for arrival (two has often been the standard) for their expected report time.

Meaning that if your work day starts at 0600 and you're given two hours to show up, you can show up no later than 0800.

That's the idea.

The spirit.

The practice that everyone seems to take is "I've got an extra two hours to not be there".

Which for active duty military folk and the like, it's fine.

Because my workday of 0600 - 1500 just became 0800 - 1500 and less work is best.

Completely agree.

But for contractors... well...

The company I'm with now has a strict "you have to have 80 hours every pay period". Which means either through work hours or paid time off (PTO), you're gonna be accounted for.

And since most are loathe to use their PTO for anything that's not actual vacation time, they're going to put in the actual work hours.

And because of how everyone in the military (or military adjacent) treats delayed reporting, those that choose to take part in the shenanigans...

Well, they fuck around and they find out.

Because what could've been a regular commute at your regular time quickly becomes "I'm stuck in this miles-long backup to the gate for the next hour".

And that makes me smile.

Because schadenfreude.

Also.

Just found out that the Navy is abandoning its ill-fated attempt to kill off NAVFIT98A.

Given that it was leveraging COTS software from Adobe, I'm guessing that it was millions (or hundreds of millions) of dollars lost in subscription fees and all that jazz.

And that makes me sad.

Because they could've given me millions of dollars to make something that would've worked.

Meh.

Thank the gods it's almost Friday.
